Ever pulled a real fossil shark tooth out of the sand? On the Shark Tooth Adventure, we cruise out from Emerald Isle onto Bogue Sound to the shoreline spots where fossil shark teeth wash up, then give you time to walk the water's edge and search. Salt air, warm sand and a sharp eye are all you need. It's a private 2-hour trip for your group, and you pick the time.
If you don't see your date or time available, please call 910-448-4218.
You board at the Emerald Isle Boat Ramp and head out across Bogue Sound to shoreline spots where shark teeth turn up. Then it's your turn on the sand. A dark, triangular shape at the water's edge is easy to walk right past, so for a little extra help on the hunt, add "Need Help Shelling?" when you book. When your time is up, we cruise back to the ramp with your finds.
Along the way, watch for ospreys, pelicans and egrets. Dolphins are often seen on most of our tours. Wildlife is wild, so sightings can't be guaranteed.

Sharks have been shedding teeth in these waters for a very long time. Some of those teeth fossilize and get buried in sediment, and storms and shifting sandbars bring them back to the surface. That's why fossil shark teeth are usually dark: black, gray or brown rather than white. Whether you find one on a given day comes down to the weather, the season and a little luck, so we never promise a find. What we can promise is a private trip on Bogue Sound, salt air and the thrill of the search.
Want to learn more about what else washes up around here? Read our Crystal Coast shelling guide.
Please arrive 20 minutes before departure and use the restroom at the docks. There's no bathroom on board.
The trip lasts 2 hours, which includes the boat ride and your time on the shoreline searching.
We stop at several shark tooth islands in Bogue Sound, shoreline spots where dark fossil teeth wash up. We can't promise finds. Fossil shark teeth turn up in different places with the weather and the season, and some trips find more than others, but the search is half the fun. Want a hand with the hunt? Add "Need Help Shelling?" when you book.
Yes. You're welcome to swim at the stops, so bring a swimsuit and a towel along with your shark tooth bag.
For $100, added when you book, a trained shark tooth hunter and shell finder helps you learn how to spot teeth and where to look on the beach. Your guide rides along and doesn't count toward your 6 guests. It's the best way to sharpen your eye for these small finds.
They are usually black, gray or brown and shaped like a small triangle or arrowhead, often with a pointed tip and a flat root. Many are small, so they are easy to miss until you know what to look for.

The Shark Tooth Adventure is a shorter 2-hour trip focused on fossil shark teeth. The 3-hour Shelling Adventure stops at both shelling spots and shark tooth spots, and the 5-hour Serious Shellers Cruise gives dedicated shell hunters the most time on the shoreline.
Somewhere on the sandbar, a tooth older than the coast is waiting for you. Come Join The Hunt!
